Lisa Elmaleh — Tierra Prometida

While volunteering at different humanitarian organisations Lisa photographed the border between the US and Mexico. The physical border, but also the people she encountered, trying to cross it. The perception of the border and immigration (created in the media) differs from reality and is explored in this project.

Lisa works with a big technical camera, which might not sound like an obvious choice, but is actually a very useful tool in her process:

“The large format 8x10 camera is entirely relevant: the time it takes to set up and make a photograph allows for conversation and collaboration with the person, or people, sitting in front of my camera.”
